 | Make waves with the fitness rage of the summer… An emerging global sport with a Hawaiian heritage, stand-up paddleboarding is “the fitness rage of the summer”, according to the Wall Street Journal. The hottest new way to cross-train, it’s perfect for those looking for a high cardio but low-impact exercise that’s gentle on the joints. At beaches around the world, adventurers in skyrocketing numbers are standing on boards and paddling, a balancing act that strengthens the legs, buttocks, back, shoulders and arms. It’s surfing culture’s fastest-growing sport, and we are totally on board. Before setting out from the newly opened Sai Kung Water Sports Training Centre to the open sea, certified Blue Sky instructors will teach you basic theory and technique, including proper stroke, safety essentials, and how to steer while staying on top. After a bit of practice, it’ll be time to have some fun, do a bit of exploring… and work on your tan! Course Highlights - Theory and history
- Practice in shallow water
- Island exploration on the open sea
- At the end of the day, you’ll receive a certificate from the Hong Kong Stand Up Board Association, which allows you to rent the boards for future unsupervised sessions (HK$280 / 3 hours).
“Cooler than hiking, but with the same adventurous spirit, stand-up paddleboarding offers a superior core workout in a graceful display of strength, balance and endurance. “ Men’s Health “Like yoga, standing on a board requires basic balancing abilities, which in turn strengthen and tone any and all muscles used to stay in position, and because it’s low-impact, the sport is perfect for those with sensitive joints. “ Wall Street Journal
