Vino La Revolution
Eddie McDougall, The Flying Winemaker, defies the image of your stereotypical wine expert, with a dressed-down, almost rogue approach to his quest of making wines more fun and accessible to everyone. From wine-tastings with plastic cups, to sourcing unknown Cabernets from Lebanon and afar, his focus is on judging wines on merit alone without the shackles of elitism traditionally associated with this great drink.
Eddie started making wine at the age of 19, working alongside some of the world’s best winemakers in Australia and Italy before creating his own cult label UMAMI Wines of Australia in 2007. After a 2-year stint as Master Winemaker at HK’s 8th Estate Winery, the intrepid vine explorer again stepped out on his own to open The Flying Winemaker, wine gallery and wine lab.
Stepping into The Flying Winemaker is like taking a whirlwind tour of the world of wines, with over 300 quality wines from far-flung, wonderful wineries selected on merit and for the stories behind the bottle. The second floor boasts a fully functional wine lab hosting the most innovative wine classes in HK, from Tongue Explorer to WineSkool Blend Master and WineSkool 101.
For HK$300 you can participate in the relaxing 2-hour WineSkool Chic workshop for beginners to intermediates, where you’ll learn how to impress your guests with the perfect bottle of wine without breaking the bank. Classes are available through March to May but are restricted to small batches of 15 people, so hurry!
